Yorkton Travel Guide

SASKATCHEWAN, YORKTON 1963 BICYCLE LICENSE plate Yorkton is an urban center in southeast Saskatchewan that is not too far from the Manitoba border. It is a major distribution center with a population of about 15,000 people. The town has several attractions, including a casino and an annual summer film festival called the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival that has over 50 years of tradition behind it.[1] The main attraction of Yorkton, however, is the Yorkton Western Development Museum. It is about 330 kilometers (200 miles) east of Saskatoon and can be reached by taking the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16). Alternatively, it is 190 kilometers (120 miles) northeast of Regina along Highway 10. The museum is on the west side of town and its theme is the "Story of People".[2] It illustrates and portrays the way of life embraced by the early pioneers of Saskatchewan during the 1700s and 1800s. On display are old machinery, tools, and reconstructed interiors of early homes, including examples of the different styles of ethnic groups such as the English, French, Plains Indians, Swedes, and Ukrainians.[3] References: Carroll, Donald.
