Stara Gradiska Travel Guide



Stara Gradiska is a place with a population of 600, located on the Okucani-Bosanska Gradiska road. The settlement was established in the 4th century, when the Roman Gragyach was there. It was first mentioned in a written document in 1295.

A great Turkish ship building location used to be there. In 1918 a monastery was there. The monastery was later transformed into a prison. Stara Gradiska was an important stronghold on the bank of the Sava during the Vojna Krajina in 1762.

During the World War 11 a concentration camp was there. After the war it was transformed into a goal, with various workshops. The place was mentioned as a parish in 1623. the St Mihovil Arkandel's church with a bishop's palace was mentioned and built in 1969. In 1991-5, during the Serbo-Croatian war, the place suffered great damage. In memoriam to the killed Croatian soldiers, the big cross is places on the Graveyard in Uskoci.
