Sooke Travel Guide

Sooke lies at the southern tip of Vancouver Island and is a great excursion destination from Victoria – only a 45 minute drive. The town’s Sooke Basin is an ocean inlet that is often mistaken by visitors for a lake. With its short distance from Victoria, Sooke has long been a perfect weekend escape for residents of the provincial capital.

Sooke has several attractions, including the Sooke Harbour House. This is a restaurant and inn – one of the first devoted purely to West Coast Canadian Cuisine, which draws on the foods of First Nations people in the region and uses only locally produced food. The restaurant has won many awards and received international acclaim.

The Sooke Potholes Regional Park and the adjacent Sooke Potholes Provincial Park are two other attractions. Both parks together encompass 62 hectares of land and are great places to embrace recreational outdoor activities like hiking and swimming.

Sooke is also a popular mountain biking destination. The Galloping Goose Regional Trail, a popular cycling route, runs through the town. Sooke is also a great base for visiting the West Coast Trail and the Juan de Fuca Provincial Park – both have their fair share of biking trails.
