| This is my best friend's hometown. Don't let the Sampit Tragedy a few years back scare you. Things have gotten back to normal. Besides, it's kind of fascinating in a weird way to visit the place where all that stuff happened.
The Mentaya River is probably Sampit's most beautiful attraction. It's gotten a bit polluted over the years, but is still the lifeline of the city. You can pay the locals to give you a canoe ride. I recommend visiting the PPM....the beautiful pink riverside complex. Other buildings/monuments include the Genung Bi government building and the Taman Kota and Bundaran religious monuments. You can stay at the Purnama Hotel, Aletha Hotel, and the Rahmat Hotel, but the Sampit Hotel is where I always stay. It's pretty clean and their service is decent. |
