Novoyavorivsk is a city in western Ukraine. It is approximately 30km from the Polish border and another 30km from the city of Lviv.
The city has somewhere around 30,000 inhabitants. It was built by the Communist government in the 1960s and '70s for the purpose of housing nearby factory workers. The factories near Novoyavorivsk were manufacturing rayon, a type of artificial silk. The interesting thing about Novoyavorivsk is its architecture. Under Communist rule, all the apartment complexes were constructed in the same mold and design.
Novoyavorivsk is not the most interesting destination for tourists. Most of the cultural and exciting events occur in Lviv, but Novoyavorivsk may be worth a trip if you want to see a Communist-era built city with uniform architecture. |
