| The McCune Rare Book and Art Collection is located at JFK Library, 505 Santa Clara St, Vallejo, CA 94590. It's website is http;//www.mccunecollection.org. This collection has free admission. It contains a leaf from the original Gutenberg Bible (1450). It also has 6 other incunabula (books printed before 1501). They are happy to bring these items out to have you sit down and read them. There is also a working 1852 Albion Printing Press. Quite a sight. There are hundreds of rare books in this collection. In fact, this seems to be a basic history of fine printing with many famous printers/publishers represented.
The volunteers are willing to give free private tours if you merely email them and set up a time and date. Parking is free and it is a great site within walking distance of the ferry terminal and near the other museum in Vallejo. I would highly recommend it. |
