With an 11-acre pool area, a 30,000-square-foot spa, 2,400 slot machines, and 15 restaurants (including Border Grille and Wolfgang Puck's Trattoria del Lupo), Mandalay Bay gives little reason to venture to the rest of the Vegas strip. Families flock to the resort, taking advantage of the luxurious-y...

If James Bond were staying on the Strip, something tells us he'd book a suite here. Elaborate wet bars, giant 42-inch plasma TVs, plush carpeting, dark wooden desks, floor-to-ceiling windows, mirrored wardrobes at the foot of the most comfortable beds we've ever tried, and even a bowl of fake cherri...

The main hotel is the more affordable and less fabulous lodging component of Mandalay Bay. That said, it's still a first-rate property with cavernous rooms, and prices do run pretty high. In a separate tower from the rest of the Mandalay Bay complex, THEhotel is a resort within a resort intended to appeal to the younger end of the upscale crowd, people who want stylishness and luxury but aren't ready for the traditional feel of a Four Seasons. Mandalay Bay is one of our favorite hotels. Why Well, we love that the lobby (impossibly high ceilings, calm, gleaming with marble, and housing a large aquarium), and the other public areas really do make this seem more like an actual resort hotel than just a Vegas version of one. You don't have to ...

The rather silly nomenclature of this utterly fabulous Vegas accommodation reminds us of our previous consideration regarding the Four Seasons's relationship with Mandalay Bay (located on the top floors but operated as a separate entity) - it's part of the hotel but not precisely the hotel. A very modern contrast to its sister property, Mandalay Bay, THEhotel opened in December 2003 between the resort's theater and parking garage. This resort feels like the kind of place Robinson Crusoe might have dreamed up on his return to civilization.
