Krasno Polje is a settlement of 670 inhabitants situated on the Jurjevo to Otocac road (990 meters above sea level). There is the office of the weather service Zavizan, which is the place with greatest colds in Croatia. Built in the 18th century, Krasno is a local road junction to Kutarevo, LipovIje and Stirovaca, Jablanac and Go-spic. This Beautiful mountainous area in the northern regions of Velebit has been inhabited since ancient times. Krasno was first mentioned in 1205 by the Croatian king Ladisiav, in his deed of gift to Vid Vuoetic. In Lika it is well-known for its shrine of Our Lady of Krasno, about which the Croatian poet Silvije Strahimir Kranjcevic wrote a poem Nas covo. |
