  The Chinese are gregarious and generous. They have a deep history dating back thousands of years as one of the oldest civilizations in the world. With over 4 million sq. miles stretching west to Afghanistan and east to the Korean peninsula, China encompasses nearly every terrain and weather possible. This vivacious country of nearly 1.4 billion people is also the home of the Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, Tiananmen Square, and the massive metropolitan bustle of Shanghai. China’s public transportation system is extensive and quite affordable. You should be able to get around Beijing and Shanghai without any difficulty since the subway system runs efficiently and cover a great deal of area that makes direct connections. If you feel a bit more adventurous, you might want to get a bicycle and join the millions of commuters who choose this method of transportation. China has only recently opened its doors to visitors in the last couple of decades, but the interest and mystery surrounding this cultural jewel is nothing less than incredible. Although China is never short on sightseeing, you can easily be drawn off the beaten track and find yourself in the midst of smaller villages where you are the only traveler in town. Whether you are finding yourself following the Silk Road or drifting down the Yangzi River, make sure you pack plenty of room for excitement and first-time experiences. | |
