Chambois Travel Guide

Chambois is a town near Argentan in French Normandy. If you are a historian or an expert in military architecture, chances are you know or have heard of this town. On August 19th, 1944, Canadian and Polish soldiers met with American and French soldiers arriving from the west at the base of the Norman keep with its four 12th century towers. For two days, German forces launched continuous assaults on the town. They were finally defeated when the 7th German Army was forced into a pincer grip. They barely escaped. Three days later, the German military chiefs surrendered in the nearby village of Tournai-sur-Dives.[1]
